12 Monkeys Season 3. Just finished watching this, and wow, just wow. The story kept twisting and turning. The acting was compelling, and the writers took full advantage of the time travel
MacGuffin to drive the plot forward.
So if you haven't caught it I can recommend checking it out.
Star Trek Discovery. The much talked about revamp of the Star Trek franchise. Personally, I enjoyed this and couldn't see what all the trash-talk was about? We also watched
The Orville.
Again we enjoyed this. It was a loving homage that combined the best of the original series and
Star Trek: The Next Generation. I understand Seth MacFarland isn't everybodies cup-of-tea, but
The Orville didn't offend us.
Finally, we caught up
The Agents of Shield season 5. This was a bit of a roller coaster ride.
Any recommendations from my readers. Don't do cable or subscription, but I'm always up for a good series to buy and binge on.
The Orville is the only TV show I'm really watching right now. The other main thing I watch is Critical Role on youtube.
ReplyDeleteEverybody says The Expanse, Westworld and Dark Mirror are good, but those've been around so I assume you've tried 'em. Of those I've only seen some Dark Mirror; can confirm it's pretty good. I'll probably watch these (and the Discovery stand alone episodes, and seasons 4 and 5 of Agents of SHIELD) when my library gets them on DVD. I've got a few quibbles with the first season of Discovery but I thought it was alright overall.
My sister recommends Dark Matter and Altered Carbon, and says Man in the High Castle and a foreign show called "Dark" on Netflix are okay; don't know if they've got anything out in DVD yet. She does not recommend Nightflyers, and has mixed feelings about something called The OA.
If you haven't seen Farscape, it's a fun show from a while back on about the same level as Star Trek and Star Gate.
Dark Mirror I've heard mixed reports of, but I shall have to check it out now you've said it's OK.
DeleteWe're into the Expanse, and Westworld we're just waiting for the price to be right.
Altered Carbon, loved the books so I shall be checking that out. Man in the High Castle isn't available on cisc, or at least not yet, what we saw at a friends' place was excellent.
Nightflyers concept doesn't float my boat.
Cheers for the recommendations, most welcome.
Dark Mirror tends to be morbid in a 'Twilight Zone' kind of way, if the Twilight Zone set every episode in the same universe. Still an anthology though so no harm in skipping around.
DeleteCheers!
What, no mention of The Good Place? Watch in order, avoid reviews, because there's a lot of ongoing development and almost anything would be spoilery. Eleanor wakes up to discover that she's dead and in something like Heaven… but there's been a mistake. This is what happens when you have a showrunner with a "no assholes" policy.
ReplyDeleteTrek Disco seemed like an interesting premise, but I felt it was a very bad fit for Trek, and a profound lack of sympathetic characters didn't help. The Orville feels much more like actual Trek, sometimes too much so.
I shall check out the Good Place. It sort of floated past my horizon, but I then got distracted.
