DARPA Reconfigurable Wheel Tracks
This has being doing the rounds, so I thought I'd post a link here for reference. My first thought was transformable wheels for combat armor suits. But you probably guessed that, given how mad keen I'm on mecha.
I've never really understood the appeal of leg-wheels on mecha. You're already spending all that high profile and vulnerability on a legged movement system… and then you aren't going to use it? This (and the other thing in the same video) seems to me to tackle the problem from the other end, to try to make the wheels do more of a leg's job so that you don't need to have the legs at all.
